One last gasp

It’s been a while since I’ve gone hunting. A few weeks at least. Today I’m following Justin McKerrow to Lookout Mountain - the scene of my own archery season - in pursuit of an elk. But this time, Justin will be armed with a Remington 7mm, and I’ll be wielding a Cannon GL2 video camera.

I’m looking forward to this one. Justin went up with my cousin, Cody, a couple days ago and they saw quite a few elk - but never could close the deal. Today will be the final day that Justin can hunt, so we’re hoping to connect this time. We’ll go up tonight and spend the night at camp with our wives and Justin’s baby girl, Cora.

The elk have reason to gloat at getting the better of me during archery season, but Justin will have evened the odds somewhat when he brings in his 7mm. However, during archery season, the elk get pushed a lot and we ended up losing their location the last two weeks of the season. During rifle season, they get pushed even harder, so we’re going in with our fingers crossed. Regardless of how we do, we’ll have a story to tell on Monday - hopefully we’ll have meat as well.
