I was cruising the blogs I read every day, and this article on Jake’s outdoors caught my eye. The pictures alone are enough to make the toughest of the tough smile. It got me to thinking about how fortunate I am to have had a family that got me interested in the outdoors at such a young age. My earliest memories are fishing Bully Creek Reservoir in Eastern Oregon with the entire family. I also remember a few trips to the little known and seldom visited Little Field Reservoir in a very remote corner of Eastern Oregon. My cousin often talks about how fortunate he is that his father took him into elk camp when he was a youngster. My grandpa had an uncle that took him fishing on the McKenzie River in Oregon when he was a youngster. These aren’t rare stories, we hear countless stories from people about their early memories in the outdoors and how these memories have shaped their view of the outdoors and life in general. Every so often, there are people who are late comers, but the vast majority of the people that love the outdoors were introduced to it when they were very young. As I get older and start realizing that someday I’ll have children of my own, it hits home the importance of raising them right, and one step in that direction is to introduce them to the great outdoors.

Jake’s Outdoors post was adorable. It is true that those who enjoy the outdoors were introduced to it at a young age.
Introducing your kids to the outdoors is not just a big part of raising them right. It is one of the most fun and exciting things you’ll ever experience too.
I also read that piece over at Jake’s Outdoors. Wonderful memories. Every picture tells a story!
