When I was in first grade, it was discovered that I had poor eyesight. I was fitted with glasses, and everything seemed great - I remember seeing the leaves of trees and being amazed! By the time I hit third grade, I had a large prescription change. The prescription changed again in fourth and fifth grade, and by seventh grade, the eye doctor suggested hard contact lenses as my pupil was rapidly changing for the worse and the idea was that the hard lenses would serve to hold the pupil in place and slow my degenerating eyesight. So I spent the next six years wearing hard contact lenses. A year after I graduated, we figured I could go to soft lenses as my eyes shouldn’t be changing so rapidly anymore. I got soft lenses and glasses at that point. I’ve had several prescription changes since then, and my glasses are no longer very adequate. The last time I picked up my soft lenses, I had just over-extended my last pair by about a year. They recommend using one pair of lenses for two weeks - this has been a joke to me, as we cannot afford to get new lenses that frequently, so I try to get at least one month out of each pair. The last time, I used the last pair for almost a year before we were able to get a new prescription and new lenses. Well, I didn’t learn my lesson. The pair I’ve been wearing recently, were my final pair from that batch - and I’ve been wearing them since September of 2007. I was sitting at the computer yesterday and my right eye starting watering, and I could feel my contact start bunching up, and then it just fell out. I picked it up to see that it had ripped nearly in half. So, my wife called the eye doctor to get an appointment - and wouldn’t you know it, after calling several places, the earliest I can get in is June 5th! So, I’m stuck wearing glasses that aren’t the right prescription until then! And I’m scheduled to go turkey hunting and steelhead fishing at the end of May! I haven’t fired a shot while wearing glasses since I was 12 or 13, so I suppose I need to start practicing that again. Mostly, I’m just constantly reminded why I hate glasses after having worn contact lenses for so long - they’re just flat annoying. They keep sliding down my nose, my peripheral vision is blurry, and because the prescription is old, my eyes start aching after a few hours. Maybe, just maybe, this time I’ll learn my lesson and I won’t get so long without seeing the optometrist!

You sound like my husband. You might try an Eyemasters or Walmart - you can normally get in to those eye doctors really fast
