Upon reading this article, I realized I was reading the very mission statement to our blog here. This is what connects us, indeed.
This article caused me to ponder the age old question: “Just why exactly am I doing this?” I created this blog with my dad because we like to tell stories. We love telling stories, but then we also love hearing stories - so we advanced to the next phase. We became - I guess for lack of a better way to describe it - story collectors. We then decided we would like to compile a library of hunting stories - I mean, what better thing for the outdoorsman than a big compilation of outdoor stories?! I’ll admit I’m a bit of a story fanatic, and if you ever meet me on the street corner, if we start talking hunting, the stories could last well into the night - the valve becomes a one way valve - once it’s opened, there just ain’t no way to shut it! I think it’s a common thing among people that love to hunt and fish. If you have a great story, or know someone else who has a great story, and would like to share, I guarantee that we’d love to hear - or read! Feel free to give anyone with a great outdoor story our contact information - or you could give me their contact info and I can contact them to hash out a master plan for getting these stories told.
There was a documentary a while back where they collected all these stories from WWII vets to get them recorded before there were no more WWII vets left. This seemed like such an awesome idea - and has sparked us to create a category called “Preserving the Past” where we’ll focus on stories from the older generation, as it would be a shame for these stories to end without being told. Sometimes, I sneak some other stuff into this category because I can’t think of a better category to put it in, but we’d love to record the stories passed down from long ago. Good stories just need told - it’s therapeutic! Feel free to email pictures, video, text, audio, anything…if it tells a hunting or fishing story, there are a lot of people here that would love to experience it! Of course, we welcome anyone to sign up to tell stories via blogs, too.

After writing this post, I came across another blog that shows how much hunters are addicted to hunting stories - sometimes it seems like we enjoy the stories as much as the hunt!

Tom, I think more people need to preserve the stories for future generations.. everyone has one and it is great when we all get to hear them.. thanks
