Fishing For Crow

Yesterday morning, a good friend, Gary Bledsoe, shared one of the funnier stories I think I’ve ever heard.  Here is the story - as told to me.  This is why fishing is great - no matter if you’re catching fish or not!

“I was fishing with an old friend down in the canyon below Lake Powell and it was hot.  You know how it gets down in that cayon - feels like it’s 125 degrees.  We put these salamandars - these little water dogs - on our hooks and threw them out into the river.  We were down on the end of the river where there was a grove of cottonwoods nearby.  We were hot and tired, and one of these cottonwood trees grew kind of sideways out over the river.  I got to looking at it, and I saw a salamandar with fishing line hanging out of its mouth sunning itself on the tree!  I nudged the old boy next to me and asked him, “That your water dog over on that tree?”

He’d been napping, so he opened his eyes, squinted against the hot sun in the direction of the tree.  He leaned back again and shut his eyes as he said, “Yup.  You all fish for trout.  I’m fishin’ for crow!”

I agree, that is funny! You know what they say “Ol’ guys rule.” I admit I have been known to cast a few in the trees in my time also.
