Do I Have to Stop This Car?

Ah, yes, those famous words uttered many many times by my very own father - and on more than one occasion, the answer was a resounding, “yes!”  And then we three brothers were immediately sorry for getting under Dad’s skin.  But, the real reason for this post was spurred by the wisdom of Othmar Vohringer who prompted me to do some serious thinking with this post.

Everyone Has a Bear Story

Everyone has a bear story, everybody but me. Up to about five years ago when the conversation turned to bear experiences, I would have to clam up, because I had none, nadda, zippo. Once in awhile I’d look around to see who was present, and if I saw that someone I had heard tell a bear story was not there, I’d venture out and borrow it.

Last Call for Brownlee 2008

First off, I’d like to say thank you to the Idaho Press Tribune for running a piece about Base Camp Legends.  I’ve included the jpeg image, above, of the newspaper page because the PDF file was too big - and I’m not in the mood to shrink it!  As the weather remains hot, bass fishing has reportedly been slow, but we thought we’d give it a test this weekend.

Knight in Tarnished Armour

Here I sit on a Sunday evening still nursing what my little wife calls a mild case of heat exhaustion, but if I were allowed, I’d say it is an extreme case.  Anyway its created a good case of grouchiness .  Than there is the fact that when we hiked out of the bowels of The Seven Devils Mt. range Saturday afternoon I found out her pack weighed 43 pounds and mine was 42.  Set your teeth in that one and see how it feels maucho man.  It definitely sets a mood.

Fastest Trigger in the West

This post from the blog, From the Stand gave me some amusement. If my dad were here instead of scouting for a mountain goat, he’d have jumped all over this story. Since he’s not here, I will take it upon myself to tell on myself. As a fellow videographer, I can understand the tension and panic when it seems the person you’re filming is not going to take the shot and the animal is getting away.

The Boat

Well, my dad posted about the boat he remembers while growing up in Minnesota, so I thought it would only be fair to mention the boat I remember when I was growing up in Eastern Oregon.  I’m not sure what kind of boat it was, but I do know that I always trusted it like I would trust a gold toothed bank robber.

The 300 pound elk call

Sometimes life shoots you a little curve and all you can do is smile and go on. I don’t know how long its been since I’ve really been embarassed, but a couple weeks ago I actually got caught in an embarrassing situation and it all started with my closet no less.

Oregon Record Buck

Jim Gaskins over at Jim’s Outdoor Blog was kind enough to send me a great story about the new Oregon state record for archery mule deer in velvet. This story blew my mind - because of the story behind the hunt, the size of the animal, and Jim’s creative …

Giant Salmon Flies Hit the Canyon!

We had another good fishing trip on the South Fork of the Snake, but the sun may have fried my brain, along with the lack of sleep that comes from a fly by night trip like this.  Obviously something has affected me.  I am usually not …
